Episode 29: Women and Regional Sport

First aired: 19 April 2017

Description:

Sporting activities through clubs and sport centers account for about 1/5 of exercise used by the general population of Australia, yet only about half as many women participate in comparison to men. Participation drops drastically after the age of 14, possibly due to an increase in demands on time in studies, work and leisure activities. Studies have shown that participation in sports are higher in regional Victoria in comparison to metropolitan Melbourne, and that less than 10% of tv media coverage is of femal sports events.

Regular guest Christine Parnell shares her experiences and opinions about women and regional sport.

Special guest Joy briefly talks about her interest in sport.

Michael Van Dorsser, President of the Mooroopna Hockey Club and Director of the Shepparton Cricket club talks about women in sport.
